Poaching in Sri Lankan waters:

Navy nabs 19 Indian fishermen

The seized vessels

Nineteen Indian fishermen were arrested on Wednesday by the Sri Lanka Navy due to allegedly poaching in to Sri Lankan waters.

The navy said the arrest took place on Wednesday afternoon in the seas north of Talaimannar.

The navy also seized four trawlers of the fishermen. The fishermen were escorted to Talaimannar Police station where further procedural steps would be taken against them, the navy said. Illegal fishing by fishermen of both India and Sri Lanka is a recurring problem for the respective authorities.
