Unity and sovereignty affected :
Certain Western countries, NGOs trying to make SL a colony -
Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne
Certain Western countries and non-governmental organizations are
attempting to make Sri Lanka a colony again. The methodologies adopted
by them damage the unity and sovereignty of the country. All Sri Lankans
should rally round against these international pressure, Prime Minister
D. M. Jayaratne said.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne expressed these views when he met Chief
Justice Mohan Peiris at Visumpaya, the Official residence of the Prime
Minister.

Conspirators are implementing their agendas targeting many persons
and institutions in different fields. Currently such an effort is being
taken in Geneva. All Sri Lankans should take the country forward and
oppose such trends, the Premier said.
He said we should further strengthen the country’s economy in
response to their attempts to capture Sri Lanka politically and
economically. Similarly, the government respects the independence of
judiciary and has taken many productive measures in this regard.
One is that the government has taken steps to strengthen the
judiciary proceedings of the North and East after a short time since the
war was ended up. The government has invested financial and human
resources in this respect and the people of North and East are enjoying
their benefit.
The Prime Minister said that the government is not intervening into
Court matters and President Mahinda Rajapaksa always respects the
independence of judiciary. Some countries accusing Sri Lanka of human
rights violations themselves violate human rights in their countries as
well as in foreign countries. He said that it is funny that no
international organization volunteers to probe those allegations.
The Prime Minister said national integrity and the co-existence have
been totally restored in the country and the life of the people in the
North has been improved under the Uthuru Vasanthaya programme.
Prime Minister Jayaratne said that some Western countries did not
speak about human rights violation when civilians in the North and East
were under the custody of the LTTE terrorists.
“Some personnel and groups are trying to make the country unstable.
Some foreigners as well as Sri Lankans are among them.
“Sri Lankans who return from foreign countries should well study the
steps taken by the government,” he said.
He added that President Rajapaksa ended the 30-year war and created
an environment for all the Sri Lankans to live without fear.
The expectation of the government is to establish a self-sufficient
economy.
Steps have been taken to establish a balance between farmers and
consumers.
The vision of the Mahinda Chintana is to strengthen the state and
private sectors equally. The government has provided considerable
infrastructure facilities to foreign and locals investing in the
country, the Prime Minister added.
The Prime Minister said judiciary proceedings as well as the
jurisdiction have become very strong and pledged that he extend his
fullest support for the common people to obtain the services from the
Judiciary.
Mrs. Mohan Peiris and Prime Minister’s Private Secretary Anuradha
Jayaratne participated.
