Intense heat to continue

The intense heat experienced in the country during the day would continue to prevail, Meteorology Department Duty Forecaster Anusha Warnasooriya said. She said the usual weather pattern prevailing in the inter-monsoonal period is clear skies in the morning and thunder showers in the evening.

She noted the humidity in the atmosphere is also high these days resulting in perspiration and an uncomfortable feeling. She observed that due to the clear skies in the morning, the temperature rises with sun light and added to it, the wind blowing from the sea is also warm. She said as the sun would be positioned directly above Sri Lanka from April 5-15, the hot atmosphere would further increase.

The Sun will be positioned directly above the Equator on March 31.
