Kinross six-mile sea swim on March 31

The 48th Annual Open Six Mile Sea Swim, conducted by Kinross Swimming and Life Saving Club will be held on Sunday 31st, March 2013. This most popular long distance swimming competition held annually attracts almost all the long distance swimmers in Sri Lanka and undoubtedly is the longest distance swimming competition in South East Asia.

Every year around 100 competitors from Clubs, Schools and Armed Forces and Police participate in this competition. The course of the swim is from Wellawatte to Mount Lavinia and back to Wellawatte an to qualify for awards and certificates the competitors have to finish the race in 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The meet is conducted with the sanction of Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Association.

Entries have already been invited for this meet from Swimming Clubs, Schools, Armed Forces and Police and the entries close on March 15, 2013. In addition to the following Challenge Trophies the winners will receive cash prizes.

1. M G Sirimanne Memorial Challenge Trophy for the Winner of the Men's Race.

2. John Roche Challenge Trophy for the winner of the Women's Race.

3. Turab A Jafferjee Memorial Challenge Trophy for the Men's Team Championship.

4. Guy Theideman Challenge Trophy for the Women's Team Championship.

5. Dama Perera Challenge Trophy for the 1st male Kinross Swimmer to finish within the time.

6. George De Bruin Challenge Trophy for the 1st female Kinross Swimmer to finish within the time.

7. Maharajah Challenge Trophy for the youngest male swimmer to finish within the time.

8. President's Challenge Trophy for the youngest female swimmer to finish within the time.

9. Tissa Ariyaratne Challenge Trophy for the oldest swimmer to finish within the time.

Last year at the 47th Annual Meet held on 8th April 2012, the men's race was won by Kaushal Manawadu of St Joseph's College, Colombo, in a time of 2hrs. 25 mts and 15 secs, while in the women's race Imesha Sewwandi of Sri Devananda Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda was the winner, in a time of 2 hrs. 46 mts and 56 secs.
