Cottage system for accommodation

The Agrarian Services and Wildlife Ministry will launch a new
programme to introduce a new accommodation system to promote tourism
with the Wildlife Department, Wildlife Director General H D Ratnayake
said.
The programme is being introduced on the concept of Agrarian Services
and Wildlife Minister Vijitha Vijayamuni Soyza, he said.
Infrastructure facilities will be developed in selected three
national parks in the country, Ratnayake said. He said the three parks
are Yala, Gal-oya and Udawalawa.
The ministry will introduce a cottage system for accommodation, other
than bungalows, across the country, in the near future, Ratnayake said.
The cottages will be made out of wood. One cottage can accommodate 10
individuals.
Cooking facilities will also be provided for each cottage.
Medical student on holiday drowns

A medical student on holiday from the USA drowned during a swim at
the Unawatuna beach in Galle with a group of friends on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as T P G Kushan Weerarathne, 27, of Galle.
Evening of dance
The Indian High Commission is supporting "Friends of Santiniketan",
Sri Lanka in organizing an evening of Dance and Music recital led by
renowned dancer Chandana Wickremasinghe and his group at the Buddhist
Cultural Centre Auditorium, No. 32, Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Mandiraya,
Colombo 05 today at 6.30 p.m Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha
would be the chief Guest on this occasion.
Pomegranate plants distributed

A special variety of pomegranate of tested at Katpiddy Seed Research
Centre was distributed among selected horticulturists in Volanai,
Saravanai, Naranthanai and Allaipiddy. The high grade pomegranate plants
will give a high yield and will be the first of its kind to the
introduced in Jaffna. |
