'Education alone could uplift plantation sector'
P Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
Education alone will uplift estate children in the future. Therefore
the student population in the plantation sector should strive towards
achieving success in education, Parliamentarian and Ceylon Workers'
Congress Vice President P Rajadurai said.
Rajadurai gifted musical instruments needed for the school band
valued at over Rs 200,000 to the Pedro Tamil School in Nuwara Eliya.
He said he himself who is from a plantation worker family rose to the
present position by becoming an Attorney-at-Law and a Parliamentarian,
through attainments in the fields of education and learning.
Rajadurai said today one could see many new faces emerging from
different parts of the country, merely towards getting the plantation
workers votes, but the fact remains, all the achievements of the estate
workers to their present position were all due to the sacrifices made by
the late leader Saumiyamoorthy Thondaman and the Ceylon Workers'
Congress, he said.
Rajadurai said the present government under the leadership of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is all out to provide maximum education to
plantation children to be on a par with the rest of the student
population in the country.
Hence, he requested the estate children to make the best use of such
vast facilities and achieve their goals and targets. He also requested
the teachers in the plantation sector to give their maximum efforts
towards educating students in the wider and larger interest of the
plantation sector.
Principal K Rajan thanked MP for the valuable gifts provided to the
school. |
