Six cases were filed under the Food Act in the first two months of
2013 and a total of Rs.7,000 collected as fines. Eighteen cases were
filed by the Public Health Department of the CMC under the Food Act in
2012.
The offenders were fined Rs.1,000 each by the Maligakande Magistrate.
In addition, seven persons were fined Rs.1,500 each under the
Mosquito Breeding Prevention Programme.
“Raids were conducted by Food Inspectors (FI) and the Public Health
Inspectors (PHI) in all 47 Wards,” said PHI D W S K Weerasinghe.
Contaminated food and drink samples have been sent to the CMC
laboratory for inspection.
The inspections conducted by the CMC had being hampered by the
posting of both PHI’s and FI’s to the outstations.
These postings had a negative effect as on going programmes had been
hit by the dearth of trained personnel. Apart from that, some had gone
on retirement. |
