LMD releases employer of choice rankings

Business magazine LMD has released the exclusive Employer of Choice Survey compiled by research firm TNS Lanka, in its March issue which is now available islandwide.

In its cover story, LMD said “TNS Lanka’s Employer of Choice Survey and its principal findings are valuable tools that businesses could adopt in their efforts to build an employee-friendly corporate identity.” The study ranks Commercial Bank, HSBC, MAS, Unilever and People’s Bank as the top five preferred employers in Sri Lanka.

Commercial Bank “wins a seal of approval as the most desired employer in Sri Lanka,” the magazine notes, adding that “the key areas of focus for the bank in its approach to labour practices and human resources, encompass recruitment and assignments, a wages policy and labour-management relations, occupational health and safety, diversity and equal opportunity, training and education, gender and wages, goals and performance, organisational responsibility, training and awareness, and monitoring and follow ups.”

LMD said “HSBC’s second place is an affirmation of its standing as a preferred employer in this country.” HSBC also promises successful candidates a dynamic work culture combined with exceptional career development opportunities, it adds.

Also in the top three is apparel giant MAS Holdings. “A combination of world class practices and a family oriented approach makes MAS truly a way of life for our diverse range of professionals… MAS’ human resource framework is an expression of the values and processes that drive organisational thinking, based on principles of mutual respect and recognition that all must contribute to drive the company forward,” the journal notes.

TNS Lanka’s Employer of Choice rankings consist of 42 companies, with the banking sector and conglomerates having the highest representation (7 each) in the employer brand rankings, followed by the finance and insurance sector with six Employers of Choice.

FMCGs, apparel manufacturers, telcos and retailers are the others to make their mark in the survey rankings.

LMD is Media Services’ flagship magazine, and it also publishes the lifestyle journal Living, the LMD 100, Most Respected, Brands Annual, Dirimaga and the Living Colombo Guide.
