Kaushal takes fifth five wicket haul for the season

NCC off spinner Tharindu Kaushal took his fifth five wicket haul in the current domestic season as the right armer picked five for 72 against Colombo Cricket Club when the home team were bowled out for 267 at CCC yesterday.

Kaushal, 19, has scalped 36 wickets in five matches in this season. The former Revatha College cricketer has got one 10 wicket haul so far and excelled brilliantly with his vicious doosra during his nine innings so far. NCC debutant Mohomed Anaz delivered exceptional spell in the morning and captured first four wickets of the home team. Former 22-year-old Trinitian put CCC in back foot from his slow left arm balls.

NCC lost opener Sandun Weerakkody and Dinesh Chandimal as CCC left arm spinner Dinuka Hettiarachchi 's early strike.

Record 224 stand

All rounder Janaka Gunaratne (146 not out) and wicket keeper batsman Rajitha Wickramarachchi (99) propped up Moors Sports Club as they made 440 for 7 against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club at home ground yesterday.

Former Cambrian Gunaratne became the leading run getter in the tournament with 525 runs after he cracked seven sixes and 13 fours in his 154-ball stay at the wicket. The 31-year-old, who made a century in the last match, put on a record 224 runs for the seventh wicket with Rajitha Wickramarachchi, who was unfortunately run out at 99. The 23-year-old former Sylvestrian right handed wicket keeper batsman hit a dozen fours and one six in his 99.

Moors: 440/7 in 90 overs (Janaka Gunaratne 146 n.o, Rajitha Wickramarachchi 99, Indika de Saram 88, Buddhika Sandaruwan 2/91).

Sachithra - 159

Tamil Union captain Sachithra Serasinghe scored 159 runs in their 428/8 declared against Sri Lanka Navy Sports Clubs at Welisara yesterday.

Serasinghe, 25, one of Sri Lanka's finest middle order batsmen in the domestic circuit made his 159 runs in just 156 balls including 16 fours and one six. The right hander joined at the crease when Tamil Union had lost three for 46 and forged a stunning 130-run partnership for the eight wicket with paceman Suranga Lakmal, who struck a game changing 43-ball 58. Lakmal hit six fours and one six during his unbeaten strike.

Sri Lanka Navy resumed their innings and fell two wickets as Chanaka Welagedara scalped both in his two overs.

Dhanushka solid 153

SSC one down batsman Dhanushka Gunatilleke made a solid 153 in their 371 for 5 against Sri Lanka Ports Authority Sports Club at NCC yesterday.

The left hander faced 225 balls and struck 15 fours and two sixes and put on two identical 131-run partnerships for the second and third wickets between opener Tharanga Paranavithana (55) and last week's century maker Kaushal Silva (66) respectively. Wicket keeper batsman Silva hit eight boundaries in during his 81-ball knock.

SSC: 371/5 in 87 overs (Dhanushka Gunatilleke 153, Kaushal Silva 66, Tharanga Paranavithana 55, Thilina Kandamby 38 n.o, Isuru Udana 2/81).

Malinga takes 3/14

Chilaw Marians fast bowler Malinga Surappulige's early strike removed three Galle Cricket Club wickets as the home team collapsed three for 51 in reply Marians 290 at Galle yesterday.

Former Nalanda College seamer, picked up all three wickets for 14 as home team fell three for 51 at stumps.

Bloomfield made 304 for 3 at stumps thanks to right handed Madhawa Warnapura's undefeated 127 against Sri Lanka Army Sports Club at Bloomfield yesterday.

The former Nalandian hit 12 fours in his patience innings in 227 balls and added undefeated 128 for the fourth wicket with DK Ranaweera.
