Navy seizes narcotics

The Navy arrested a person with a haul of narcotics on Thursday in the Puttalam district. According to sources, the raid was conducted by naval personnel attached to SLNS Thambapanni of the North - Western Naval Command with the assistance of Puttalam Police in the Puttalam lagoon area.

The arrested man together with the 1,120 cigarettes and 960 Modaka mixed with cannabis seized was handed over to the Puttalam Police.

Puttalam Police are conducting further investigations. Meanwhile, the Navy also recovered another set of illegal fishing nets at Udappuwa, Naval personnel attached to SLNS Thambapanni of the North-western Naval Command also seized 29 illegal fishing nets in the area.

The recovered illegal fishing nets were handed over to the Puttalam District Assistant Fisheries Director for further action.
