Torch saves farmer from crocodile

A farmer who had a miraculous escape from the clutches of a crocodile
recently after hitting its jaw with a torch was admitted to the Dambulla
Hospital with injuries.
Farmer K.P. Jayattana (55) of Ihala Arawala, Kandalama had been on
his way to his farm on a bicycle to keep night vigil when a crocodile
lying on the Arawala tank bund had jumped at him and caught his leg
toppling the bicycle.
As the cycle handle too had entered the crocodile's mouth it had
found difficulties in eating off his leg.
Taking advantage of the situation Jayattana had had the presence of
mind to hit the crocodile's mouth with his torch and the reptile had let
his leg off and escaped. After returning home he had got himself
admitted to hospital to obtain treatment for the wounds caused to his
leg. |
