Torch saves farmer from crocodile

A farmer who had a miraculous escape from the clutches of a crocodile recently after hitting its jaw with a torch was admitted to the Dambulla Hospital with injuries.

Farmer K.P. Jayattana (55) of Ihala Arawala, Kandalama had been on his way to his farm on a bicycle to keep night vigil when a crocodile lying on the Arawala tank bund had jumped at him and caught his leg toppling the bicycle.

As the cycle handle too had entered the crocodile's mouth it had found difficulties in eating off his leg.

Taking advantage of the situation Jayattana had had the presence of mind to hit the crocodile's mouth with his torch and the reptile had let his leg off and escaped. After returning home he had got himself admitted to hospital to obtain treatment for the wounds caused to his leg.
