Three from same family found dead
Panadura South Police found the bodies of a man, his wife and their
eight-month-old daughter at their home in Sagara Mawatha, Panadura
yesterday.
Police found the body of Niroshan Indika, 42, hanging from a rafter,
the body of his wife Shirani Padmalatha, 41, on a sofa and their
daughter's body on a bed following a call to 119. The family lived in a
rented house.
The Panadura magistrate conducted the magisterial inquest.
The bodies were sent to the Kalubowila hospital morgue for the post -
mortem.
Investigations are continuing.
Road closed
Badulla - Welimada main road will be closed from today until 3am
March 1 due to renovations on Puhulpola bridge on the Badulla - Welimada
road, the Police Public Relations Media Unit said.
Motorists travelling on Badulla - Nuwara Eliya road can reach Nuwara
Eliya via Bandarawela and Welimada. Motorists travelling from Nuwara
Eliya to Badulla can travel via Welimada, Bandarawela.
Man's body found in canal
Ragama Police found the body of a man floating in Hamilton canal near
Hekiththa Sagara grounds, Wattala on Sunday.
The man is around 50 years and 5'4" in height. He is attired in a
brown short sleeved shirt and brown shorts.
Police also found a receipt in his wallet issued by the Peliyagoda
Grama Sevaka officer with Munidasa Weerasundara Das , Peliyagoda written
on it. The body was sent to the Ragama Hospital morgue.
Elderly woman hit by train
A 70 - year - old woman walking along the rail track died when she
was knocked down by a train plying from Badulla to Colombo near the
Gampaha railway station.
The victim was identified as Swarna Wijesundara of Puwakpitiya,
Galewela.
The body was sent to the Gampaha Hospital morgue.
A-L student drowns
A 19 -year-old A-L student of Bandarawela Dharmasoka College drowned
while bathing with his friends in Kandearawa wewa in Ella on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Lahiru Chaturanga of Passara road, Ella.
The body was handed over to his family after the post - mortem.
Arrested with heroin
Mirihana Police arrested a suspect with 4.420 grammes of heroin in
his possession at Kibulawala.
The suspect is a resident of Gotatuwa.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old suspect, a resident of Borella was arrested
by Welikada Police with 3.100 grammes of heroin at Bandaranayakepura on
Wednesday.
Asylum seekers in protective custody
Eight suspects arrested by Puttalam Police while planning to
illegally migrate were sent to protective custody until tomorrow by the
Puttalam magistrate.
