The Navy recovered a haul of illegal fishing nets from the
North-western province during a two day operation and arrested one
person.
Sources said Naval troops attached to SLNS Vijaya and SLNS Theraputta
of the North-western Naval Command found the illegal fishing nets in
Kuringipitti, Talawila and Arippu East Fishing Marshalling Point.
The search operations were launched based on information received
from the public. The person arrested at the Arippu East Fishing
Marshalling Point had an illegal fishing net. The arrested person and
the items, which included 53 illegal fishing nets (tangus) and 236 cage
nets, were handed over to Assistant Fisheries Directors in Puttalam and
Mannar for further legal action. |
