Ananda in innings win

A fine half century by Thamalaka Athulathmudali(56) and a seven wicket haul (7 for 17) by paceman Venuka Ashan helped Ananda College to notch up an innings and 56 run win over Revatha MV Balapitiya in their inter-school under 19 match concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

Deciding to bat first, Ananda scored a massive 244 in 49.2 overs

The visitors who were reeling at 107 for 8 yesterday were bowled out for 121 with Ishan Bandaranaike taking 5 for 31 and following on they were skittled out for 67 runs with Ananda paceman Venuka Ashan taking 7 for 17 to give the Anandians a morale booster before their big match aginst Nalanda.

Gurukula stun Zahira

A splendid century (143) by opener Hashan Dumindu helped Gurukula Vidyalaya to beat more fancied Zahira College by 10 wickets in their under 19 inter school cricket played at Maradana yesterday.

Zahirians in their first innings were all out for 109 in 29 overs. In reply to Zahirians, Gurukula piled up a huge 283 for 5(declared) in 71 .3 overs with the help of Hashan Dumindu (142) , Roshan Anurudhdha (74) and Kasun Madushanka (24) .Niksy Ahamed took 3 for 54.Dumindu who scored his century including 19 hits to the ropes and one over it was involved in a fruitful partnership of 145 runs for the third wicket with Roshan Anurudhdha(74).Niksy Ahamed was the main bowler with 3 for 54.

Zahira, in their second essay scored 174 in 52.2 overs including fine knocks from Shehan Weerasinghe (45), Irshad Umer (22), Niyazdeen Rahamatullah (33).Janitha Pramod had a matchbag of 8 for 82 ( 4 for 66 and 4 for 0) while Roshan Anurudhdha took 3 for 26.

Easy for Mahinda

Mahinda College Galle beat Maris Stella College Negombo by an innings and 21 runs in their under school match concluded at Kadirana yesterday.

Mahinda were helped by two fine bowling performances by Chalana de Silva ( a match bag of 8 for 23) and Indeera Gallage ( a match bag of 7 for 63 ) while Nirvantha Thikshila top scored for the Mahindians with 69 which helped them to get 194 for 9 declared.

Maris Stella : 53 all out in 32.5 overs (Shanaka Srimal 13; Chalana de Silva 6 for 7, Indeera Gallage 4 for 34) and 120 in 51 overs(Shanaka Srimal 34, Ashen Madhawa 29, Indeera Gallage 3 for 29, Thamith Kalhara 3 for 33 Chalana de Silva 2 for 16, Malith Mahela 2 for 28)
