Kyudo demonstration
Keerthi Wickramaratne sensei and members of the Kyudolanka Kyudojo
will conduct an awareness program on Kyudo (Japanese bowmen ship) in
order to popularize this highly disciplined activity in Sri Lanka.
The seminar will be held at Sri Lanka Japan Cultural centre,
(Sasakawa Trust) auditorium, no4, 22nd lane, Colombo 3 on March 3 at 10
am. The entrance is free of charge.
Kyudo is known as purest of martial arts used by the samurai warriors
of Japan and has evolved in to a prestigious activity practiced by
millions of enthusiasts in Japan and world over.
It is also known as standing meditation due to its highly precise and
graceful shooting style using an asymmetrical long bow.
The ultimate goal of a true kyudoka (The Japanese archery disciple)
is to achieve the state of ‘Mushin’ (no mind) and to conquer one's self
than the actual target itself.
Many believe that the samurai culture has influenced the modern day
development of Japanese economy, culture and way of life. The
participants will get a first hand opportunity to experience the feel of
bows used by the samurai warriors more than 1000 years ago.
The highlight of the event will be the presence of Ono Tadashi sensei
and Miwako Arai sensei from Yu Ai Kyudojo, Saitama, Japan.
This event is organized by the Budo Culture Research and Training
institute, the pioneering institute for samurai culture and martial arts
in Sri Lanka. For further information please call 0714802070 or
