EU funded project now bearing fruits
Convenience Foods (Lanka) PLC (CFL) a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits
Ltd was the “Runner-up” in the small scale category at the ACCA
Sustainability Reporting Awards held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel
recently.ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards was endorsed by the
Ministry of Environment and the Global Compact Network Ceylon.
The report compilation was fully done by SWITCH- Asia Food & Beverage
team, trained by the CII India, the accredited training partner of
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) of Netherlands. The SWITCH-Asia F&B
Programme facilitated CFL throughout providing consultation with
implementing Sustainable Consumption and Production and ISO
Certifications during the past four years.
While implementing cleaner production, efforts on systematic
gathering of data on resource consumption have paved the path to this
great achievement. Reporting on sustainability was based on GRI G3
framework.
“CFL has received certification for ISO 22000:2005 and is in the
process of receiving ISO 14001:2004,” said Prema Cooray, Project
Director.“Convenience Food (Lanka) being honoured as a sustainable
business model is a great achievement for us as we could now see the EU
funded project bearing fruit and recognized as a sustainable cleaner
production company, ” he added.
Implemented by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the SWITCH- Asia F&B
was in partnership with IVAM Uva BV (The Netherlands), CII (India),
Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), Industrial Services Bureau (ISB)
and Industrial Development Board (IDB).
