Lakshan and Raveen rescue Trinity

An eighth wicket stand of 79 between Lakshan Jayasinghe (42) and Raveen Sayer (47 n.o) helped Trinity College to recover and make 217 runs after they were reeling at 85 for 6 at lunch on the first day of their inter-school cricket match against Royal which began at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Trinity electing to bat first after winning the toss, lost six wickets for 85 by lunch due to some fine off spin bowling by Poorna Aluthge (6/65). After lunch, a seventh-wicket stand of 48 between skipper Dinuk Wickramananyake (28) and Lakshan Jayasinghe (42) helped them to make a partial recovery before the eighth-wicket stand between Jayasinghe and Sayer.

Off spinner Poorna Aluthge, who bowled superbly captured six for 65. He was well supported by medium pacer Hashen Ramanayake (3/22). Royal in reply, were 61/2 at close with Samapath de Silva 18 not out

Trinity: 217 all out in 66.1 overs (Raveen Sayer 47 n.o, Lakshan Jayasinghe 42, Dinuk Wickramanayake 28, Bhagya Palihawadana 24, Poorna Aluthge 6/65, Hashen Ramanayake 3/22).

Royal: 61/2 in 21 overs (Sampath de Silva 18 n.o, Imal Liyanage 18, Isuru Gunatilleke 13, Hashen Ramanayake 5 n.o)

Dilan wrecks Isipatana

St Bendict’s College captain Dilan Angelo picked up five for 28 against Isipatana College who were skittled out for 140 runs in their inter-school match, which began at St Bendict’s College grounds yesterday.

The right arm off spinner ripped through the Isipatana batting line up with only Matheesha Ranaweera (38) and Malin Dias (38) offering any resistance.

Angelo had the superb figures of five for 28 well supported by Geethika Jayasinghe (2/32) and Yohan Soysa (2/43).

Bens were in a strong position with the openers Thilina Silva (43 n.o) and Mahel Jayalath (17 n.o) being involved in an unbroken stand of 63.

Isipatana: 140 all out in 70 overs (Matheesha Ranaweera 38, Malin Dias 38, Dilon Angelo 5/28, Geethika Jayasinghe 2/32, Yohan Zoysa 2/43)

St Benedict’s: 63/0 in 18 overs (Thilina Silva 43 n.o, Mahel Jayalath 17 n.o).

Bold reply by Joes

St Joseph’s made a bold reply when openers Dilan Fernandopulle (35 n.o) and Yasas Samarasinghe (33 n.o) were in volved in an opening stand of 70 runs in reply to Ananda’s formidable first innings total of 251/9 declared in their inter-school cricket match, which began at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. Ananda taking first lease of the wicket, piled up 251 for nine helped by two fine knoks by captain Thushara Samarakoon (79) and Pasindu Isira (57).

Skipper Sachin Hewawasam (2 for 44) and Hemal Perera (2 for 86) were the most impressive of the Josephian bowlers.

Ananda: 251/9 decl in 72 overs (Thushara Samarakoon 79, Pasindu Isira 57, Dasun Wijesinghe 22, Rajith Rodrigo 22, Sachin Hewawasam 2/44, Hemal Perera 2/86).

St Joseph’s: 70/0 in 20 overs (Dilan Fernandopulle 35 n.o, Yasas Samarasinghe 33 n.o)
