Thalawa Dabarella Karametiya Kandaketiya are the worst affected areas.


A cowardly act says minister

Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake yesterday condemned the acid attack on North Central Province Ayurveda Commissioner as an act of cowardice and said he had ordered authorities to identify the culprits behind the attack and bring them to book.

The minister said Dr Alwis is now receiving treatment at the Colombo Eye Hospital and said all who respected law and order would never condone this cowardly act.


Four injured in bus, van crash

Four persons were injured when a bus and a van collided on the fly-over in Nugegoda at 4.30 am Thursday.

The injured were admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.


Awareness creating seminar

‘Building Lasting Relationships: the Art, Science and Practice’, an awareness creating seminar organised by the Old Girls’ Association of Ladies’ College for members and the public will be held on March 1 from 5 pm to 6.30 pm at the Ladies College Hall.

Dr Piyanjali De Zoyza will make a 20 minute presentation on parent child relationships followed by a 20 minute presentation by Dr Maya Cockeram UK) who will speak on relationships between adults.

The panel will include an experienced male counselor who will be available for discussion and question and answer session that follows. Questions can be sent in advance via email to [email protected] to be discussed at the Q and A session. Question cards will be issued to participants so that questions can be sent up to the panelists and privacy maintained. Tickets are available at the OGA Secretariat (Telephone 2575-469 or 0773-062-111) with all committee members, the school and the DVS.


Remembering Richard Pathirana

Several social and religious ceremonies will be held to commemorate former Education Minister Dr Richard Pathirana’s 75th birth anniversary which falls tomorrow. Floral tributes will be placed at his statue at the Galle Bus Stand at 9.30 am followed by a memorial lecture by Prof Carlo Fonseka.


Memorial Oration

The Prof H V J Fernando Memorial Oration will be delivered at the 11th Annual Academic Sessions of the College of Forensic Pathologists of Sri Lanka today at the Lionel Memorial Auditorium of the Sri Lanka Medical Association, 6, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Former Attorney General C R de Silva, PC, will be the Chief Guest. Health Ministry Secretary Nihal Jayathilaka will be the guest of honour.

Head and Senior Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, University of Colombo, Prof. Ravindra Fernando will deliver the Inaugural oration.


Air Force centenary celebrations

Guwan Thotupala Siyawas Semaruma, a programme to mark the centenary of the Air Force directed by Athula Ransirilal of the National Rupavahini will be telecast over the Irida Ayubowan two hour programme tomorrow from 8 am to 10 am.


AGM

The 22nd Annual General meeting of the Alumni Association of the Peradeniya University, Colombo Chapter will be held on March 3 at 9.30 am at Shalika Hall, Park Road, Colombo 5.

Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Prof Athula Senaratna will be the Chief Guest while National Savings Bank chairman Sunil Sirisena will be the Guest of Honour.

The new council of management will be selected on this day.


Wheel chair access opening

A pathway constructed for the benefit of the differently-abled persons, who visit the historic 113 – year - old Gothami Temple in Borella to participate in religious observances will be opened by Gateway International School chairman R I T Alles on February 25 at 4 pm.


Kalana Seya 2013

Kalana Seya 2013, a photography competition, exhibition and a workshop organised by the Photographic Art Society of Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda will be held on March 1 and 2 at the school premises.

The exhibition will be open to the public on March 2 from 9 am to 3 pm.

Meanwhile, a short film produced by the Viharamahadevi Photographic Society will be screened on March 2.


Sharddhanjalle on SLBC

W K Sarath Wimalasiri will make an analytical presentation of songs composed, based on various themes that come in Buddhist literature over the Sharddhanjalle programme of the Sinhala national service of the SLBC on February 25 from noon to 12.45 pm.


Walk

Al Mubaraq National School at Malwana will celebrate its 90th anniversary tomorrow with a walk to raise funds for school development work.


Get-together

A get-together of Veyangoda Bandaranayake Central College organised by the Old Boys Association of the ‘85 batch (A/L ‘85) will be held on February 24 at 7 pm at Nittambuwa Ranathisara Hotel.
