The Bandarawela Divisional Agriculture Research Centre produced a new
hybrid carrot variety called Lanka Carrot. This hybrid carrot variety
was developed following long term research by the research centre.
"This variety has been recommended to the Agriculture Department by
the Varietal Release Committee (VRC)," Agriculture Ministry sources
said.
"Seeds of Lanka Carrot, resistant to common diseases like Angamaraya,
can be produced locally and can also produce a good harvest during the
rainy season, without the application of any chemical fungicide,"
ministry sources said.
"It is important that correct hybrid technologies are applied for the
production of Lanka Carrot seeds. It is also important to do the seed
production under proper conditions. According to the research centre,
30-50 grams of seed can be obtained from a tree," sources said. |
