Carlton Super Sports to add colour to Tissa
Chinthana Wasala
Tissamaharamaya in Hambantota will be the venue for yet another
sports extravaganza when the seventh Carlton Super Sports will be staged
at the Carlton Racing Track and Tissa Lake from March 1 to 3.
The 2013 edition of the Carlton Super Sports will consist of nine
sports events, Sri Lanka Open Triathlon, 4×4 race, mountain bike races,
tug of war, motor racing, rowing, water sports, para motoring display
and boxing.
The newest addition, boxing will see Sri Lanka’s top class boxers in
action. The South Asian Games boxing pool will be in action along with
the secondary pool members. Adding more excitement to spectators, the
boxing events will be conducted on the Tissa Lake Bund.
Under a concept of the Tharunyata Hetak Chairman and Hambantota
District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, the Carlton Super Sports has
been a massive crowd puller since the first edition itself.
Former Sri Lanka windsurfer Thusal Gunawardena, the mastermind behind
organizing watersports at Carlton Super Sports, said they have succeeded
in bringing wind surfing to places such as Tissa Lake. “A popular sport
in places such as Hikkaduwa, Bentota and Arugam Bay, wind surfing which
is normally takes place in sea, is expected to attract sports fans in
Tissa area too”, added Gunawardena.
Concluding the 2013 Carlton Super Sports, the Carlton Supercross will
be held at the Race Track on Sunday, March 3. The sports wing of
Tharunyata Hetak Organisation, has conducted tournaments in rugby 7’s,
basketball, rowing, motor races, marathon, mountain biking, badminton,
foot ball and body building, becoming the number one in hosting sports
events in Sri Lanka.
The event is open to the public and the entrance is free of charge.
The organizers believe that the event will provide economical benefits
to the area while promoting tourism and providing entertainment to the
public. |
