Six wanted for seven robberies arrested
The Mirihana Special Operations Unit yesterday
arrested six suspects who had hijacked seven vans in several cities
around the country. A foreign made hand grenade and eight
motorcycles used in the crimes were also seized from their
possession.

An Austrian woman who got into difficulty while
bathing at the Alaswatte beach in Uppuweli was saved by the life
guards of the Uppuweli Police. She was holidaying in Sri Lanka with
her husband, Police reported.

Two nabbed with tobacco haul
The Sri Lanka Navy arrested two persons
attempting to smuggle tobacco in the Northern seas on Wednesday. A
Navy Media Unit spokesman said the raid was carried out by a Naval
petrol craft attached to the Northern Naval Command in the seas off
Kankesanthurai.
