People's Bank new chairman assumes duties
The newly appointed chairman of People's Bank, Gamini Senarath
assumed duties at the People's Bank Head Office yesterday.
A reputed officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, Senarath
is the Chief of Staff to the President. An old boy of Richmond College,
Galle who graduated from the University of Kelaniya, he also holds a
Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo.
After graduating from the University of Kelaniya, Senarath joined the
Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1984 as an Assistant Government
Agent. He then served as the Assistant Controller and Deputy Controller
of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. He also functioned as
the Senior Secretary to the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry and
the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic. He was the former chairman of
the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
Senarath was appointed Chief of Staff to the President in 2009 after
his tenure as Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister and as
Additional Secretary to the President. Apart from serving as the Chief
of Staff to the President, he is also the chairman of Litro Gas Lanka
Company, Litro Gas Terminals Company and Sri Lanka Insurance Resorts &
Spas. Having participated in a number of foreign training in various
fields of administration, leadership and management, Senarath has
foreign exposure in the related subjects. He is also a reputed social
activist.
On assuming duties as People's Bank chairman, chanting of Pirith
together with Hindu, Catholic and Muslim religious rituals were carried
out at the Head Office.
