Thai buddhist delegation calls on President
A delegation from Thailand that included Ven Phra Dharmakosajarn
Thera and a Minister of the Thai Prime Minister’s Office, Niwattumrong
Boonsongpaisan, called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees
last morning.
The visit is a part of a series of events organized by the Royal Thai
Embassy in Sri Lanka to mark the 260th anniversary of the establishment
of the Siam Maha Nikaya in Sri Lanka.
Both President Rajapaksa and the Thai representatives gifted each
other two Buddha statutes to mark the strong Buddhist affiliations that
the two countries and the people share.
Thai ambassador Poldej Worachat, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena
and External Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunatilaka Amunugama were also
present. |
