Yoga

In Sanskrit Hasta refers to the hand or arm and Pada means foot. Therefore the asana is called the 'foot to hand' pose while lying down.

There are many practices that use this same name, where the hands are lowered towards the feet in various ways - somewhere the palms are placed onto the floor either in front of or beside the feet; others where the ankles or heels are grasped. We will present one of the ways in which the asana can be practiced.

Step 1: Lie on the mat. Put the soles of your feet on the mat so that your legs are bent at the knees. Keep your hands on either side of your body. Breathe in and out. Concentrate on your breathing pattern for about 10 seconds.

Step 2: Lift your left leg off the ground. Grab your left ankle with your hands. Stay in this pose for about three seconds.

Step 3: Bend your leg further back. This should be done slowly with care as not to strain yourself.

Step 4: Try to touch your forehead to your left kneecap. Stay in this pose for about five seconds. Repeat this asana two more times. Practice this asana on your right leg as well.

Important: Those who are suffering from spinal and neck problems refrain from practicing this asana.
