Josephian girls emerge champions

St. Joseph’s Girls School, Nugegoda emerged under-17 Colombo South
Zonal cager champions beating Our Lady of Victories Convent, Mortuwa
comfortably by 72 points to 27 in the final at their home courts
yesterday.
Josephian girls dominated the match from the beginning and never let
the opponents to pose them a threat at any stage of the game. Nugegoda
lasses recently clinched the under-17 ‘A’ division title and proved
their supremacy once again this time.
They played in their usual aggressive style and registered a 17-point
lead at half time (30-13).
Ayesha Sandumini made the highest individual contribution for the
winners with 34 points in the final and was adjudged the Most Valuable
Players of the Tournament while her team mate Chalani Perera who scored
17 points in their quest to bag the crown was given the Best Offensive
Player award.
Hershionne Silva of Our Lady of Victories Convent was picked as the
Best Defensive Player and scored eight points against strong Josephians
in the final.
Vishmi Nirmadhi was the top scorer for the loses and added nine
points.
Meanwhile St. Lawrance’s School won the consolation final for the
third place against Asian International School defeating them by 43
points to 24 after leading 24-12 at half time.
For the first time a leading fashion store, Nolimit supported the
tournament as main sponsors and they are looking forward to support the
game of basketball in Sri Lanka. |
