Five suspects to be produced before ID parade

Five men taken into custody by Kollupitiya Police in connection with
the death of a man aged 24 were remanded until February 28 by the Fort
Magistrate pending an identification parade. Jeyakumar Surendran, a
three wheeler driver from Cinnamon Gardens died following a brawl at a
night club in Thunmulla Junction, Bambalapitiya on Valentine’s Day.
The suspects are from Grandpass, Modera and Kotehena.
A three wheeler in which one of the suspects allegedly travelled was
also taken into custody.
AJMO A Ilangovan who held the postmortem, attributed Surendran’s
death to trauma caused by the impact of the head hitting a hard surface.
Investigations conducted by IP Crimes M P D I Kulasekara, SI Asiri
Bandara and SI Dissanayake under the direction of ASP Pradeep Ratnayake
and OIC Mangala Dehideniya revealed that the head injury was due to the
fall and the head hitting a hard surface suspected to be as a result of
a drunken brawl.
Inquiries by the Daily News revealed that there had been several
complaints to the Police from the public about drunken men engaging in
brawls in the wee hours after visiting a karaoke club in the vicinity.
Earlier, the Police arrested and produced some suspects before court. |
