A double funeral

A bank employee who went to pick his mother from a funeral at
Avarangal, died on the spot when he was knocked down by a lorry at
Sirupiday Vishnu Durga Temple.
The victim was identified as Thurairajasingham Thuendra,26. The lorry
driver had fled after the incident. Atchuvely Police are investigating.
Pinkama
A pinkama to invoke blessings on the President and the Security
Forces as a mark of gratitude for liberating the country from terrorism
will be held at Ruwanweli Seya, Anuradhapura on February 24.
It is organised by the Sumedha Pinsara Foundation and the Board of
Trustees of the Weherabendakutiya viharaya, said Viharadhipathi Ven
Welisara Jinawansatissa Thera.

President allocates funds for schools
President Mahinda Rajapaksa allocated Rs 200,000 to Nainathivu Maha
Vidyalaya and Ganesha Kanishta Maha Vidyalaya and Rs 50,000 to
Nainathivu Nagapooshany Vidyalaya. This was in response to the request
made to the President by the principals of Nainathivu schools to
allocate funds for development of schools.
The Principals are taking steps to develop the extracurricular
activities of these schools.
Police raid gambling den

Matara Police Anti-Vice Unit raided a gambling den at Mahawatta,
Rassandeniya, Matara run by a woman following a tip-off on Tuesday.
Police nabbed 11 suspects including four women. Among the suspects
arrested were two women with their babies and a couple involved in
gambling at the time of the raid, Ploice said. The suspects are to be
produced before the Matara majistrate. |
