Minister H B Semasinghe paid special encomiums to JVP Parliamentarian K
D Lal Kantha and his party colleagues, Provincial Council Member
Vasantha Samarasinghe and JVP Local Councillors for building a fully
equipped Maternity and Children's Clinic in the Hidogama 7th Canal area
when he opened the facility recently.
Semasinghe said any good work done by a people's representative
should be appreciated and given due recognition irrespective of party
differences or affiliations.
The JVP members had allocated Rs 2 million for the project from their
decentralized budget funds but they accomplished work estimated at Rs 3
million by obtaining contribution of labour from residents in the area.
He said the balance money saved from these allocations had also been
used to provide a main gate to Kaluwila Sena Maha Vidyalaya. Semasinghe
said JVP Pradeshiya Sabha members Asoka Wimalasiri and S Dhammika Kumara
and party supporters had given of their best to make this project a
success and he was thankful to them too on behalf of the government.
Semasinghe said two clinical centres and two hospitals had been
provided to the people in Nachchaduwa. Electricity facilities have been
provided to 95 percent of the residences and institutions in the area.
A Divisional Secretary has been assigned to the Nachchaduwa
Divisional Secretariat, steps have also been taken to rid the area of
the illicit liquor menace, he said "All this happened because public
officials have been given a free-hand to perform their duties without
political interference."
JVP Provincial Council member Vasantha Samarasinghe said they
attached much importance towards providing facilities to pregnant
mothers and children.
They had accomplished a great deal by the prudent use of funds, he
said. |
