Moratuwa Grads Fashion Show 2013

The University of Moratuwa will be holding its Graduation Fashion Show 2013 at the Hilton Colombo on February 28 from 7pm. The show is the catwalk presentation of the final year undergraduates of the Fashion Design and Product Development Degree Course conducted by the Department of Textile and Clothing Techonolgy of the University of Moratuwa.

The Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design and Product Development, was established with a consultancy by the London College of Fashion of the University of the Arts, London. Currently, the course is fully established and an in demand degree course in the University system of Sri Lanka. The funding was provided by the Government of Sri Lanka through the Ministry of Industrial Development and Commerce.

The course was established to satisfy a long felt need in the Apparel Export Industry and the Joint Apparels Associations Forum (JAAF), which is the umbrella organization of the apparel exporters, has worked closely with the university from the inception of the course.

Fashion Design and Product Development graduates contribute immensely to the local manufacturers of apparels and help the industry to shift from a 'Cut and Sew' supplier to a 'Total Solution Provider'. This year's principal sponsors are MAS holdings and Textured Jersey.

An awards segment will be also be featured and these will be presented for the Outstanding Designer Brand Award, Commercially Creative Designer Award, Serendib Inspirational Designer Award and Innovative Designer Award. Three new awards have also been added for this year to encourage students to venture into new categories of designer fashion, Menswear Designer Award, Creative Knitwear Award and Innovative Textile Fabric Award.
