Complainant withdraws case against girl

Coconut stealing incident:

The case filed against the 13-years-old school girl for robbing to raise Rs. 800 towards colour washing of her school building was withdrawn yesterday before Horana Magistrate, Mahinda Ranasingha. Complainant Karannagodage Chandrasena filed a motion withdrawing the case, releasing the student from the charges .

ASP, Horana, Aberathna Dissanayaka said, he had conducted an investigation on the instructions of SSP, Western Province and found that, the student’s family was in dire economic straits and had no assistance from anyone .

The complainant informed court through the motion that he never intended punishing the girl and believed that the girl during her period of probation would be placed on the correct path.” The Magistrate ordered ASP, Aberatna Disanayaka to inform the decision to the student .

The Magistrate also advised the the media against giving unnecessary publicity to this matter lest it affects the student’s future.
