Ven Pallattara Sumanajothi Nayake Thera felicitated

Conferred Aggamaha Panditha title by Myanmar government:

A felicitation ceremony to honour Ruhunu University Chancellor and Galle Maligaspe Sri Subhadraramadhipati Ven Pallattara Sumanajothi Nayake Thera who was conferred the Aggamaha Panditha title by the Myanmar government, was held at Temple Trees on Wednesday under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A press release by the President's Media Division said President Rajapaksa presented special mementos to the prelate during the ceremony in recognition of the honour bestowed on him by the Myanmar government.

Parliamentarian J R P Sooriyapperuma delivered the welcome speech. An anusasana was delivered by Vidyodaya Parivenadhipati Ven Balangoda Sobhitha Nayake Thera and the punyanumodhana was delivered by Ven Pallattara Sumanajothi Nayake Thera.

Three books including the book Pallattara Sumanajothi Prasadinee written by Ven Borelle Kovida Thera were also launched at this event.

The Maha Sangha led by Ven Aggamaha Panditha, Dawuldena Gnanissara Mahanayake Thera of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha, Ven Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter, Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya, Ministers Piyasena Gamage, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Deputy Ministers M K D S Gunawardena and Geethanjana Gunawardena, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody and Parliamentarian Ramesh Pathirana were also present on the occasion.

The release added that Ven Sumanajothi Thera who was educated at Vidyodaya and Vidyalankara Pirivena had been a teacher attached to the Polonnaruwa Vidyalaya, Galle Mahinda College and Meepawala Amarasuriya Vidyalaya and authored many books of religious and cultural value.

He was appointed Ruhunu University Chancellor following the demise of former Chancellor Ven Attudawe Sri Rahula Nayake Thera.

He is also a Mahopadyaya of the Malwatta Maha Viharaya.
