'Motivation enriches teaching profession'

Motivation is the key factor that causes professional development of teachers.

Teachers should find ways to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes to keep pace with the new trends of the education system, said Monaragala Zonal Education Director Sarath Bandu Gunasekara.

He made these sentiments participating in a certificate awarding ceremony at the Regional English Support Centre (RESC) in Monaragala recently.

Twenty five graduate teachers were trained for three months at the RESC in view of addressing the dearth of English teachers in primary sections of schools with the guidance of the Uva Provincial Education Office.

The trainees were given an opportunity to involve in practical teaching sessions and new techniques in teaching grammar, vocabulary and other language skills in the classroom.

RESC coordinator W.G.L.V Gamage, teacher trainers Rohini Kulatunga and D.M.T.Bandara conducted the sessions.

English teachers, Principals and other officials also participated.
