the application filed against the conviction and jail term imposed on
the three police officers and one Civil Defence Force personnel in the
Anugulana triple murder case.
The four convicted are Thumbegedara Newton, former IP of Angulana
Police Post, Galagamage Indrawansa Kumara, Jayaratnage Dhammika Nihal
Jayaratne and Godapiya Arachilage Janapriya Senaratne. All four were
convicted by the High Court for the 2009 kidnapping and murder of
Muthuthanthri Bastiyange Dinesh Tharanga Fernando and a youth known as

The incident was sequel to a complaint lodged by a woman living in a
tsunami camp where Fernando had entered for a purported search posing as
army personnel.
