Iranamadu airstrip to be opened in March
The Iranamadu domestic airport, fully constructed
with Sri Lanka Air Force resources and know how, is to be
commissioned by early March, Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander
Shiraz Jaldeen said yesterday. He stated the project of transforming
the onetime LTTE airstrip in the Iranamadu forest commenced 11
months ago and 85 percent of the construction is completed.

6 and 8 hearings of the application filed against the conviction and
jail term imposed on the three police officers and one Civil Defence
Force personnel in the Anugulana triple murder case.

Sakvithi gets two years’ RI for bigamy
Chandana Weerakumara alias Sakvithi Ranasinghe,
head of the defunct Sakvithi Constructions, in remand custody for
defrauding depositors over Rs 100 million, was sentenced to a term
of two years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 by High
Court Judge Vimal Nambuwansa in a bigamy case filed by his wife
yesterday.

Japanese trapping butterflies arrested
A Japanese national was arrested by the Matale
Police while capturing butterflies near the Matale Railway station
on January 30. The Police said the suspect had two live and two dead
butterflies in his possession at the time of his arrest.
