Iranamadu airstrip to be opened in March

The Iranamadu domestic airport, fully constructed with Sri Lanka Air
Force resources and know how, is to be commissioned by early March, Air
Force Spokesman Wing Commander Shiraz Jaldeen said yesterday.

He stated the project of transforming the onetime LTTE airstrip in
the Iranamadu forest commenced 11 months ago and 85 percent of the
construction is completed. The Army captured the entire area during the
final phase of the humanitarian operation in 2009.
The Air Force Spokesman said the project commenced under the
direction of Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya
Rajapaksa and initiated to construct the runway with resources of the
Sri Lanka Air Force under a concept of the Air Force Commander Air
Marshan Harsha Abeywickarama.
