Temporary ordination in Thailand

To celebrate 260 years of the establishment of Siyam Chapter of the Buddhist clergy, the Sri Lanka Buddhist Culture Centre in Mabima has organized an event to bring 260 Buddhists to temporary ordination in Thailand, chief incumbent of the temple Ven Rassagala Seevali Thera said.

Two weeks temporary ordination is an essential custom in Thai Buddhism and Ven Somdem Pra Deerayana Muni Thera of Sirinandarawasa Chapter has requested to send 260 Sri Lankan Buddhists to this event.

Ven Seevali Thera requests those interested to come forward with all certificates.

All facilities will be provided.

Infant’s body found

Hatton Police recovered an infant's decomposed body from the Chalia area of the Hatton Urban Council on Sunday. Police are investigating.


Cannabis plantations destroyed

The Police Special Task Force (STF) raided 30 cannabis chenas in Gonagaoara and Thanamalvila and destroyed full grown cannabis plants worth over Rs 10 million during the last two days.

The chenas were spread through 18 acres and located at separate places, each below three acres and above quarter acres in extent.

K G T S Karunanayake, 36, of 70/C/1 Kahalla road, Katugastota is suffering from chronic kidney failure. Her Consultant Nephrologist has recommended an urgent kidney transplant operation to save her life.

The operation is estimated to cost Rs 600,000. She seeks public assistance to carry out the operation.

Anniversary meeting, AGM

The Sri Lanka Army Engineering Services Association will hold its 17th anniversary and Annual General Meeting tomorrow at the Sri Lanka Army Engineering Regiment Headquarters in Panagoda tomorrow at 9.45am.

It will be held under the patronage of Engineering Services Corps’ Col Commandant (Director General-Projects) Major General E M M Ambanpola.

Twenty five members of the association are also to be felicitated at the ceremony.


AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Group of ‘89 of Royal College, Colombo will be held at the Royal College Union (RCU) skills Centre, Royal Primary Colombo 7 tomorrow from 5pm.


Get-together

The annual get – together of the Old Anandian Buddhist Association will be held at the Sri Lanka Youth Grounds, Maharagama on February 4.

This is organised for the 13th consecutive year.

The Annual General Meeting of Dharmaraja College Old Boys Union ( Colombo branch) will be held at the CR and FC Pavilion, Colombo 7 on February 3.
