President meets A-L stars

President Mahinda Rajapaksa met the students placed first, second and third in the Arts, Science , Biology, Commerce and IT streams in the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2012 at Temple Trees yesterday. He commended them for their excellent performances and also blessed them.

The President said students in villages are now able to secure prominent places parallel to their counterparts in Colombo.

He said this was what the government expects from the students. President Rajapaksa requested the students to fulfill their responsibility to the motherland by being true patriots. National Savings Bank (NSB) offered a four year scholarship to the students. The President also presented laptops to the students.

The President directed Higher Education Ministry officials to expedite the academic work of the students who qualified to enter universities. Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Education Services Minister Duminda Dissanayake, Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath, NSB chairman Sunil S Sirisena, Principals, teachers and parents were also present.
