Indian Tamil film: temporary suspension still effective
Disna Mudalige
The government will take its time and decide independently on the
screening of the Indian Tamil film Vishwaroopam directed by Kamal Hassan,
Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
Responding to a question by a journalist at the ministry auditorium
yesterday, the minister said the issue is still at the discussion stage
and the temporary suspension on its screening is still effective. He
said the government facilitated Muslim leaders and representatives of
organisations opposing it to see it, adding that their opinions on it
would also be considered.
The minister said the government was observing what was taking place,
particularly in India, and opinions formed in this regard in the rest of
the world.
He said the government would evaluate the situation and act
accordingly.
