School marathon runner dies during race

An 18-year-old student of Ananda National School, Chilaw died while
participating in the school's marathon at the annual sports meet
yesterday morning. Teachers and fellow students rushed R. D. Kaushalya
Pavithrani to Chilaw hospital where she was pronounced dead upon
admission.
A resident of Kanuketiya, Ilippadeniya, Kaushalya was an Arts stream
student studying in the Year 13, C class. The post mortem was due to be
held at the Chilaw hospital.
Chilaw Police are investigating. Meanwhile, another Grade 11 demale
student of Talalla North Saddharmaraja Novodya School was hospitalized
after a javelin pierced her shin, during practice for school sports
meet. Doctors at the Karapitiya hospital, after a successful operation
removed the javelin from her leg.
Sixteen year old M A Harshani Dilrukshi faced the mishap on Wednesday
at the school play ground when a javelin thrown by another student
landed on her leg piercing her shin . She was first rushed to the Matara
hospital and transferred to Karapitiya where she was operated.
