Rain steals victory from Nugawela CC

Rain and bad light thwarted Nugawela Central College of a possible outright victory in their schools under 19 cricket tournament match against Vijaya College, Matale which ended in a draw at Nugawela yesterday.

Vijaya College who were trailing behind on the first innings by 105 runs were 141 for 7 when rain stopped play at 3 p.m. with nearly 45 overs remaining.

When Vijaya College bat, M.M. Silva hit a quick 57 with 6 sixes off 52 balls.

When Nugawela Central College bat, they made 294 for 9 declared in only 54 overs. Dharshana Samarakoon struck the ball hard in making a quick 63 with 6 sixes and 5 four off 53 deliveries.

Buddhika Wickremasinghe too batted exceedingly well top scoring with 69 which had 5 sixes and 6 fours.

Vijaya College 189 all out in 48 over (S. Kaludeera 37, M.M. Silva 57, P.S. Bandara 24, G.S. Bandara 13, P.C. Weerasinghe 19, M.S. Mahanama 11, J.S. Madurasiri 3 for 27) and 141 for 7 in 36 overs (S. Kaludeera 57, S. Bandara 15, M.M. Silva 16, J.G. Madurasiri 4 for 12, S. Hapuarachchi 2 for 10).
