Theft of white marble statue : Magistrate remands three

Kandy Additional Magistrate Thanuja Jayatunge remanded three persons
for allegedly trying to sell a white marble Buddha statue in Kadugannawa.

The statue weighs seven kilograms and is 31 centimetres in height.
The statue is in Police custody.
Police officers in mufti trapped the suspects by posing as
prospective buyers.
The transaction was arranged for Rs 300,000 and the suspects were
arrested while receiving the money.
The raid was conducted by Inspector T T Ranatunge and a team of
officers.
Others who took part in the raid were Inspector Wijekoon,
Sub-Inspector Wijeyaratne, Police Sergeants C.Bambaradeniya and R
Weerasooriya. The Police informed the Archaeological Department. |
