Cyclists minus tail lights beware

The Police will take action against cyclists riding push bicycles
without a tail light in the night. The Police Public Relations Media
Unit said most fatal accidents that occurred during the recent past were
as a result of push bicycles without tail lights being knocked down by
other vehicles.
A unit release said according to statistics, push bicycles without
tail lights have been vulnerable to accidents at night.
“Many lives were lost as a result of negligence of cyclists about
taking proper safety precautions. The government gazette of December 29,
1987 and the Motor Traffic Act of 1951 numbered 37 , chapter 37, 38
states that push bicycles should be ridden at night with a reflective
tail light on a white back ground on the bicycle’s rear mudguard,” the
release said.
The Police also said this is not merely a warning for cyclists, but
also a request to save lives lost in accidents. |
