Elephant kills elderly man
Yasaratne GAMAGE
An elderly man died as a result of an attack by an elephant at
Milagaswewa on Sunday morning.
The man was on his way to a paddy field when he was set upon.
The victim was identified as A H M Mudiyanse, 65.
RASSL lecture
The Royal Asiatic Society Sri Lanka (RASSL) will hold a lecture on
Cultural Transmission in Primates: An Overview of 60 Years of Research
by Michael A Huffman, Associate Professor in Primatology at the Primate
Research Institute of Kyoto University in Japan at 5 pm today at the
Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium, No. 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha,
Colombo 7. All are welcome.
Michael A Huffmanreceived his MSc and DSc in Zoology from the Faculty
of Science, Kyoto University. Over the last 35 years, Huffman has been
conducting observational research on the Japanese macaque and other
macaque species in Taiwan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
National Fisheries Summit

The first National Fisheries Summit of the National Fisheries
Federation, the country's largest fisheries organization, will be held
today at the Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa.
The National Fisheries Federation was established according a concept
of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr.Rajitha
Senaratne.
Around 110,000 fishermen have obtained the membership of the
federation which has branches in 26 districts. One thousand one hundred
and eighty seven village level fisheries organizations have been
established through the federation. |
