The National Craft Council (NCC) commenced a survey to collect
details of craftsmen in the country, sources said.
“NCC craftsmen make a significant contribution towards the national
economy. The NCC has taken steps to update all activities of the Council
and accelerate its programmes,” the sources said.
NCC chairman Buddhi Keerthisena said the survey will help identify
craftsmen not introduced to the open market up to now.
“The survey will be an ideal opportunity to support craftsmen.
Implementing welfare programmes for craftsmen, issuing identity cards,
collecting raw material for handicrafts, conferring national awards for
craftsmen and directing craftsmen towards international exhibitions are
some of main achievements in this regard,” he said.
Craft Survey - 2013 commenced from the Kandy district. The survey
will be conducted with the participation of District Secretaries and
Divisional Secretaries in the Kandy district. Details will be collected
through Central Province offices of the NCC in the Kandy district and
the Central Province Industrial Department, Keerthisena said.
He requested craftsmen to provide their details to these offices. |
