IESL condemns attack on Eng students
The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) issuing a press
release, said it condemns the act of unprovoked, planned violence
unleashed on the students of the University of Moratuwa, Engineering
Faculty on January 16.
The release: "Many students were studying for their final year
examinations on the night of this brutal and inhumane attack. Those
students are the cream of the GCE (A/L) mathematics stream, a national
asset on which the nation has invested time and money and they were at
the cusp of entering national service in a few days.
"To have some elements to go to the level of premeditated violence on
another group of human beings is a serious matter that we all must focus
on and take decisive steps to stop without any delay.
"As the premier Professional body of Engineers, we have the
responsibility to safeguard the engineering profession and engineering
education in Sri Lanka and request the authorities at all levels to
bring the culprits to justice and set an example to prevent this
destructive and inhumane culture.
"As responsible citizens, we all must ask ourselves as to how long we
can tolerate such violence at a time of national peace after thirty
years of bloodshed. |
