Mexican Olympic medalist dies after shooting
Noe Hernandez, who won the race walking silver medal at the 2000
Sydney Olympics, died of a heart attack in central Mexico on Wednesday,
two weeks after being shot in the head in a bar.
The 34-year-old ex-athlete died on his way to a hospital after he
suffered two heart attacks in his home, the Mexico state government said
in a statement.
The former Olympian was at a bar called “Queen of Kings” on December
30 when gunmen shot him and several other customers, including two who
died. Hernandez lost an eye in the shooting.
No one has been detained in the case so far.
