The innovative insurance solutions provider demonstrated its capacity and absolute commitment of keeping its promise to customers, by honouring two claim settlements amounting to Rs.210 lakhs under General Insurance on January 17, 2013. The beneficiaries were Sulaiman Lebbe owner of a rice mill from Polonnaruwa and H. R. S. K. Gayan, a hardware shop owner from Tissamaharama, respectively. These claims were a result of floods which damaged the normal life of Sri Lankans recently and a fire which has unexpectedly destroyed a business over a couple of minutes.

Nihal Jayamanne PC, new chairman at Seylan Bank

Nihal Jayamanne, President’s Counsel and Senior Independent Director of Seylan Bank assumed duties as its new Chairman while Ishara Nanayakkara took up position as Deputy Chairman of the Bank.

Nihal Jayamanne PC is an eminent lawyer and a Senior President’s Counsel and holds key offices in the fields of law, including Chairman of the Law Commission of Sri Lanka, Chairman, Company Law Advisory Commission, Chairman, Law College Foundation and as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Judicial Infrastructure Maintenance Trust.

A former President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Vice President of SAARCLAW and a member of the National Police Commission of Sri Lanka, Jayamanne has also been a Member of the Council of Legal Education, a Member of the Advisory Council of Jurists of the Asia Pacific Forum for the Advancement of Human Rights, and, Commissioner of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.

Nanayakkara is a Director of PRASAC, the largest micro finance company in Cambodia and plays an active role in the micro finance community of the region.

He is also a Director in Brown and Company PLC, a 135 year old conglomerate with leading market position in trade, leisure, manufacturing, consumer appliances and agriculture equipment.

As a Director of Sierra Construction Ltd and Agstar Fertilizers (Pvt) Ltd, his vision is to contribute to the growth sectors of the economy.

He was appointed to the Board of Seylan Bank PLC on 24 November 2009 and also serves as the Chairman of the Sustainability Committee.
