Under 19 inter schools cricket:

Thushara props up Ananda

A fine half century by skipper Thushara Samarakoon (65) helped Ananda College Colombo to put up a formidable total of 253 for 9 declared in their under 19 inter schools cricket match against Royal College Colombo which began at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

He was well supported by Thamalaka Athulathmudali (34), Chaveen Dhananjaya (34) , Sammu Ashan (34) and Dhanuka Madushan (33). Thushara had seven boundaries in his captain’s knock. Skipper Devind Pathnmanathan ( 3 for 60) and off spinner Poorna Aluthge ( 3 for 53) were the pick of the Royal bowlers.

The Royalists in reply were 45 for one wicket at the close with Sampath de Silva remaining unbeaten on 20.

Ananda : 253 for 9 in 73.3 overs declared ( Thushara Samarakoon 65, Thamalaka Athulathmudali 34, Chaveen Dhananjaya 34, Sammu Ashan 34, Dhanuka Madushan 33, Poorna Aluthge 3 for 53, Devind Pathmanathan 3 for 60, Harith Samarasinghe 2 for 48 )

Royal : 45 for 1 in 14 overs (Isuru Gunatilleke 17 n.o., Sampath de Silva 20 n.o.)


Sachin (50 n.o.) defies Trinity.

A fighting knock of 50 not out by Sachin Hewawasam helped St.Joseph’s College to put up a respectable score of 202 runs on the first day of their under 19 inter schools cricket match which began at Darley Road yesterday.

Dylan Fernandopulle (28),Pathum Madusanka (22) , Damith Weerasinghe (21) and Yashan Samarasinghe (20) also made useful contributions. Skipper Dinuk Wickramanayake was the most impressive among the bowlers with 4 for 28.

Trinity made a bold reply by scoring 92 for 3 by the close.

St.Joseph’s : 202 in 55.4 overs ( Sachin Hewawasam 50 n.o., Dylan Fernandopulle 28,Pathum Madusanka 22, Damith Weerasinghe 21, Yashan Samarasinghe 20 , Dinuk Wickramanayake 4 for 28, Lakshan Jayasinghe 3 for 52, Charith Sudaraka 2 for 39)

Trinity : 92 for 3 in 22 overs (Lakshitha Dissanayake 29, Ron Chandraguptha 24)


Devin-fine century

Fresher Devin Jayasinghe scored a superb century inclusive of 12 hits to the ropes and three over it to help the Thomian’s to pile up 300 for 6 wickets declared in 84 overs.

Left hander Jayasinghe was well supported by Vice Captain Javed Bongso (55) with four boundaries and Sanesh de Mel unbeaten on 58 with eight boundaries.

The Wesleyites were not too happily placed at 41 for 3wickets with Sachin Jayawardena unbeaten on 22.Paceman Ishan Kularatne has so far taken two wickets for nine.

S.Thomas’ : 300 for 6 in 84 overs ( Devin Jayasinghe 119, Sanesh de Mel 58 n.o., Javed Bongso 55, Baasith Muzammil 2 for 32)

Wesley : 41 for 3 in 11.1 overs (Sachin Jayawardena 22 n.o., Ishan Kularatne 2 for 9)


Isipatana amass 305/9

A fine batting performance by Isipatana College helped them to pile up a mammoth 305 runs for 9 wickets in their inter schools under 19 cricket match against D.S.Senanayake College which began at Maggona yesterday.

Salinda Perera made a confident 96 runs inclusive of 17 fours..Kaminda Perera (60), Deshan Jayakumar (44) and Dilan Punchihewa ( 23 not out) were the others who did well for Isipatana. D.S.Senanayake were 24 for no loss at the close

Isipatana : 305 for 9 in 81.1 overs ( Salinda Perera 96, Deshan Jayakumar 44, Kaminda Perera 60, Dilan Punchihewa 23 n.o., Supun Madusanka 2 for 77, Binura Fernando 2 for 53, Raveen de Silva 2 for 14)

D.S.Senanayake 24 for no loss in 6 overs ( Uvin Bandara 15 n.o.)


Thilina 152 n.o.

An elegant knock of an unbeaten 152 runs by Thilina Silva with fifteen fours and five sixes and occupying the crease for 249 minutes and facing 175 balls put St. Benedict’s College on top in their inter-school under 19 cricket match against Moratu Vidyalaya worked off at Kotahena.

Batting first Bens declared at 274 for 7 and Mahen Jayalath too contributed 44 runs. In reply at the end of day one Vidyalians were 65 for 4.

St. Benedict’s – 274/7 dec (Thilina Silva 152 n/o, Mahen Jayalath 44, Shameera Sandamal 25, Harsha Devinda 2 for 51, Tharuka Fernando 2/28).

Marata Vidyalaya – 65/4 (Thilan Kavishka 31, Geethaka Jayalath 2/6).
