Divi Neguma boosts rural economy - Minister

The Divi Neguma Act passed by Parliament is a victory for the
government, while defeating several forces and overcoming a number of
challenges. The Divi Neguma programme aims to uplift the rural economy,
Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J Seneviratne said.
The minister was addressing a special ceremony at Sri Wickremasinghe
Abhayathilakaramaya, Kuruwita.
Divi Neguma is one of the most innovative and farsighted programmes
launched by the Economic Development Ministry, under the direction of
Minister Basil Rajapaksa, he said. Its main objective is to uplift the
livelihood of both rural and urban communities. “The government
introduced the Divi Neguma Act to make this programme more efficient and
effective. Therefore, it is the duty of everyone to lend their support
for the success of this programme,” he added.
Minister Seneviratne distributed cheques worth around Rs. 82 million
among several organizations to develop the roads in Kuruwita area.
The minister also distributed cement bags and roofing sheets for 35
families to renovate their homes. The minister said traditional
industrialists should make the best use of modern technology to develop
their industries. |
